Orkut- social website

Finally after much delay joined the orkut community thanks to my friend aditya.The unique thing about orkut is to find u r past/ current friends which u interacted over the years.

While blogging is one thing i would like to continue to do so...but orkut is something which will become necessary to everyone in near future like the email address. A person without email is unimaginable nowadays.

Lallo's Essay

Well i am not sure how true this story is , but is quite hilarious....read it.....


This is a true essay written by a Bihari candidate at the UPSC (IAS) Examinations.The candidate has written an essay on the Indian cow:

Indian Cow

HE IS THE COW. "The cow is a successful animal. Also he is 4 footed,And because he is female, he give milks, but will do so when he isgot child. He is sacred to Hindus and useful to man. But he has gotfour legs together. Two are forward and two are afterwards. His wholebody can be utilised for use. More so the milk. Milk comes from 4taps attached to his basement. horses dont have any such attachment What can it do? Various ghee, butter, cream, curd, why and the condensed milk and so forth.Also he is useful to cobbler, watermans and mankind generally. His motion is slow only because he is of lazy species. Also his other motion.. gober is much useful to trees, plants as well as for making flat cakes like Pizza , in hand , and drying in the sun. Cow is the only animal that extricates his feeding after eating. Then afterwards she chew with his teeth whom are situated in the inside of the mouth. He is incessantly in the meadows in the grass. His only attacking and defending organ is the horns, especially so when he is got child.This is done by knowing his head whereby he causes the weapons to be paralleled to the ground of the earth and instantly proceed with great velocity forwards.He has got tails also, situated in the backyard, but not like similar animals. It has hairs on the other end of the other side. This is done to frighten away the flies"

Ganesh Chaturthi

Lord Ganesha's chaturthi this year falls on 27Aug ,2006 ; and people all over India await enthusiastically for this grand festival. Its that time where idol of Ganesha is bought ,decorated and prayers are offerred.This goes on for 10 days , and then the ganesha idol is immeresed in river /sea water amidst chanting of "Ganapathi bapa maurya ,agala baras tu jaldi ya" which literally means Oh lord Ganesha! please come again and again.
Its a festival where a common pandal is setup where people from different sections of society come together ,offer prayers , sing bhajans ,meet different people, eat sumptuous food especialy the modak which is a sweet specially served , and then finally do the visarjan(immersion ) of idol in water.

It is said that at ganesh chaturthi , one is not supposed to see the moon , as it causes defamation for an individual(s) however innocent he may be.Even the great lord krishna was accused of stealing Syamantak Mani because of looking at the moon at the chaturthi night .Even if one sees he can overcome its effect rea here

So enjoy the festival and be caution :-)

String Theory

For all those science enthusiasts look out for the String theory documentary . A 3 hr documentry really cool one , has taught me more about physics particularly the string theory in particular.Havent gone through it fully, but will see the entire documenty pretty soon.

A poem .

who are we,
where are we,
Are we real,
or is it a dream?

Are we the name attached to the body,
or the wavering mind,
or the subtle intelligence
or a subtler ego?

Is there someone who is beyond these,
who knows us ,
and is within us and beyond
and is the whole existence itself?

Is it there someone who is the subtlest,
who cannot be captured or seen,
who is beyond space and time,
and who has no cycles of life?

Well , the yogis and the saints say,
it is the atma ,who is all this,
the sublest of all the above,
and the known ,knower and the knowing himself.

Well this is a short poem

Life goes on and on,
days and nights come and go.
We run here and there,
but eventually end up no where .
while some moments cherish us time again,
while some makes us cry again.
Such are the vagaries of this life oh ,My friend,
all i can just say life goes on and on.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee ill

A well -renowned director Hrishida as he is reverently called , is ill , critical but stable now in hospital .A brilliant director , and for me he is one my favorite director in this era. Although , i am not all that movie buff, but do catch up with some , a hrishida movie for sure has been always special.

Some of his movies which i had seen like Anand, Golmaal, chupke chupke, Aashirwaad, Guddi have been classics and a must see for all.

One of classics called 'Anand' was considered his masterpiece , a truly emotianal based movie, where a person shares joy , laughs , cracks jokes liesurely , adapting a carefree attitude with others around him , inspite of knowing that he will die any moment because of his detoriarting health. Movies like Golmaal and chupke chupke gives you that hilarious laughter when you see them , the comedy in them is shown so beautifully , a rare thing seen in today's comtemporary movies. A recipient of Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke award and many more laurels in his name ; hopefully , Hrishida gets well and wish him a speedy recovery.

The rocket plume was formed as a resultant mixing of fuel and water particles from the rocket's exhaust.

Its Cricket Again

The Indians are back again after a temporary break , and now taking on the not so mighty WestIndies. They landed in carribean islands , But ,just as you thought the series will be rollercoaster ride for Indians, after a certain amount of games ,you see something different. The not so mighty WestIndies win the series quite comprehensively.

Well ,well that's cricket for you the game of glorious uncertainties. !!!

The Indians as usual , remain unpredictable ,and their series of recent one day tournaments wins have finally come to a halt. So, the debate continues , is the Indian team peaked too early?, can they win the world cup?. You never know, suddenly you find the westindies in contention as well .

The westIndies played brilliantly , challenged the Indians in all aspects and came truimph.Well done Brain Lara and well done WestIndies .

Reservations in Educational Institutions

The reservation issue continues to remain the main headlines in India , with the government doing nothing about it substantially. Agreed, that the OBC , SC/ST students are meritorious , they can compete with the forward caste , but then just on the basis that the the OBC's, SC/ST''s are underprevilaged do not have sufficient income cannot be the reason for reserving some amount of seats to them.This view point is absurd and incorrect.Arent there lower income groups among the forward caste.What will the governemnt do for them?.
The point is abolish the reservation system in India. It hasn't worked for 50 years and will not do so for another 50 years.My opinion is to identify people who are meritorious in school , especially people from lower income group,provide them the monetary support ,if needed, let there talent take them to higher learning.
If government is serious it has to sponsor more no of meritorious students than say a handful of them.I agree it was not possible before because of lack of fund ,but now where India is growing at rapid pace, the funding should not be a problem,with India 's foriegn exchange reserves touching a new high.

The minsiters should stop playing poliitics and act with all seriousness.
