HappyMakar Sankranthi and Pongal Greetings to all!!
It is an onset of Spring season from today , and, according to hindu belief uttarayan starts from today. It is amazing that the hindu religion has a lot of festivities throughout the year, and , remember not one out of the forty festivities is related to sadness and grief. All the forty fesitivities in this religion speak about happiness, calmness , reaching the utilmate goal , sharing etc etc; unlike other religions where there are some events of festivities related to grief.
The hindu religion believes on the principles of advaita vedanta. It is a deep rooted and scientific based philosphy which states that neither u or me or anyone dies. That is why when great hindu gods such as lord Krishna , lord Rama , etc shed their mortal body , it was not considered as grief to an learned and intellectual men.
The essence of all the festivals is to drive u r mind to realise the omnipresent one. Finally , would like to end with a Kabir doha
Jaise Til Mein Tel Hai, Jyon Chakmak Mein Aag
Tera Sayeen Tujh Mein Hai, Tu Jaag Sake To Jaag
Like seed contains the oil, fire in flint stone
Your temple seats the Divine, realize if you can
OM.
It's all about happenings around the world be it politics, cricket, other sports, science, movies anything for that matter;also, expressing my views on them .

Ganesh Chaturthi

Lord Ganesha's chaturthi this year falls on 27Aug ,2006 ; and people all over India await enthusiastically for this grand festival. Its that time where idol of Ganesha is bought ,decorated and prayers are offerred. This goes on for 10 days , and then the ganesha idol is immeresed in river /sea water amidst chanting of "Ganapathi bapa maurya ,agala baras tu jaldi ya" which literally means Oh lord Ganesha! please come again and again.
Its a festival where a common pandal is setup where people from different sections of society come together ,offer prayers , sing bhajans ,meet different people, eat sumptuous food especialy the modak which is a sweet specially served , and then finally do the visarjan(immersion ) of idol in water.
It is said that at ganesh chaturthi , one is not supposed to see the moon , as it causes defamation for an individual(s) however innocent he may be.Even the great lord krishna was accused of stealing Syamantak Mani because of looking at the moon at the chaturthi night .Even if one sees he can overcome its effect rea here
So enjoy the festival and be caution :-)
Finally saying adieu with Ganapathi bapa maurya.....
